WEATHER

Wind

In Jericoacoara, the wind is strongest from September through December, with the wind blowing side to side-off from the right (starboard tack) between 20 and 30 knots all day long, peaking mid-day. Jericoacoara is known as a place with some of the best wind statistics in the world for the eight months between July and February, with an average of 27.6 days per month of wind higher than or equal to Beaufort force 4! From September to December you are guaranteed to have wind from 6 to 8 force Beaufort!  The wind is side-off in the bay and side shore off shore. The trade winds coming from Africa blow from east to west.

Conditions

Jeri is the ideal place for slalom and freestyle in the bay, and offers bump and jump conditions off shore. The huge tide (the water reaching a difference of around 200 meters on the beach) creates different windsurfing conditions depending on its cycle. At low tide the water is flat, creating perfect freestyle conditions. At high tide the waves build. The 1 to 2 meter high waves are long and smooth, perfect for down the line surfing. There is no reef, only sandbars, so no worries of hurting yourself on it!  With the Brazilian climate, the water temperature is around 27 degrees Celsius, while the air temperature is around 30 degrees Celsius.

Oh yes, there are no sharks in the bay!
